CONSTRUCTING REALITIES 2010

Arup Phase2 Gallery London

1 July - 1 October 2010

The first prototype of Minimal Complexity was exhibited at Constructing Realities Exhibition in London in 2010. A collaboration between ARUP Phase2 Gallery and Bartlett School of Architecture, the exhibition showcased works awarded by the Advanced Architectural Research program at the Bartlett, supported by the Economic Challenge Investment Fund.

MINIMAL COMPLEXITY

Minimal Complexity 1.0 is the first prototype of a series of modular structures, a construction system born from a design research project on the prototyping and fabrication of minimal surface geometries. The project was awarded a Certificate of Advanced Architectural Research from the Bartlett in 2010. The basis of this project was a computational design research paper from 2009 by Vlad Tenu, entitled Minimal Surfaces as Self-Organising Systems, which was presented at the ACADIA 2010 Conference at the Cooper Union in New York.

Many thanks to: Professor Stephen Gage, Sean Hanna, Ruairi Glynn, Richard Roberts, Nick Westby(Bartlett, UCL), Jennifer Greitschus (ARUP).
