GLIMPSES OF INFINITE SYMMETRY

Galateca Gallery, Bucharest 2014

GLIMPSES OF INFINITE SYMMETRY

GLIMPSES OF INFINITE SYMMETRY was Vlad Tenu’s second solo exhibition which opened on the 4th of February 2014 at Galateca, a contemporary art gallery in the heart of Bucharest. This show brought together most of the previous works and prototypes from the Minimal Complexity and Synthetic Nature series, as well as a new piece designed specially for this event.

Modular art

The art installation created for this exhibition consisted of a floating cloud of modular art pieces, organic shapes with irregular appearance reminding of corals or sea creatures but with an underlying symmetrical rigour. These pieces are a result of a nature-inspired architectural research informed by self-organisation of matter, conservation of energy, equilibrium and notions of minimal complexity. Their fluid geometries are generated using algorithms, mathematical rules and reflectional symmetry, whilst optimised for digital fabrication. The resulting prototypes are all modular prototypes made of only a few different types of flat components.

Lecture

The launch of the exhibition has been followed by a lecture and a Q&A session with the public, with an introduction by acclaimed architect Radu Teaca, the designer of the main gallery space. The show was open to the public until the 8th of March 2014.

Special thanks to Roxana Gibescu, the curator of the exhibition, and many thanks to everyone in the amazing team at Galateca.
